On a cold snowy winter’s day earlier in 2005 a small person from across the ‘pond’ paid a quiet visit to Brickendon and she has sent us a photograph as proof of her visit. Flat Ruby, as she is known, is a drawing of herself by seven-year-old Ruby Murray of Coralville, Iowa, USA.
Ruby is a pupil at Coralville Central Elementary School. As a school project the children in Ruby’s class were asked to make a drawing of themselves, which the teacher cut out and laminated. The ‘flat’ version of themselves was to be taken on outings and given to family and friends when they went on trips – with strict instructions that photos were to be taken to show where they’ve been. On this occasion Flat Ruby was accompanied by her aunt Tami. Despite her young age, Flat Ruby is already a veteran traveller having also had a pub lunch nearby and been to Hatfield, Cold Christmas and seen many of the sights of London, as well as visiting Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas in her home country.
And Flat Ruby can make one claim that most of her classmates won’t be able to beat – to appear on the website of an obscure English village!

Here we have a close-up of Flat Ruby and a picture of 3-D Ruby (in red) with
