Well,
it was 18 months in the planning and preparation stages, talking to parishes
that had done it all before, discussing what was to be included on the
map, getting quotes for printing, applying for funding, liaising with the
artist, photographer, designer and printer, collating and writing the text
for the reverse of the map, checking and rechecking the finished article,
getting it all approved by County Hall and finally (well, almost finally)
arranging for it to be printed.
Now the waiting is over. The map was officially launched on 16 April 2005 and a copy was distributed to every household in the parish with the May newsletter. Further copies are available from all good parish councillors, from Hertford Museum, Hertford Tourist Information Centre, the Woodman public house or Brickendon Grange golf club.
There is also an interactive version of the map on this website – just click on the map above. And there is a descriptive list of the rights of way. A map interpretation board was erected just opposite the village hall in 2007.
The map has been produced by Brickendon Liberty Parish Council with funding from the Parish Paths Partnership and the Hertfordshire Environmental Landfill Partnership. We wish to thank those in the Countryside Management Service and Hertfordshire County Council who have helped, encouraged and supported the production of this map. In addition we would like to thank Dudley Drake for the cartography and drawings, Les Borg for the photographs and Paul Martin Associates for the finished article.
