Support for Those in Need

Following from the parish plan the parish council has investigated the availability of services for people in the parish.

WRVS Meals on Wheels

WRVS Gardening Scheme

If you’re elderly or disabled and need help with your garden. Contact: 01992 552069 for more information on cost and availability.

WRVS Good Neighbours Scheme

For those who are housebound due to illness, age or disability WRVS volunteers can provide transport to and from the following: attending luncheon clubs, day centres, health centres and GP appointments, hospital appointments, going shopping, to the bank or library. Cost 45p per mile to cover the total cost of transport. Contact: Pauline 07843 265863.

Luncheon Clubs

“The Dell” Cecil Road, Hertford (10.00 – 3.00pm) transport can be provided. A wide range of activities including bingo, quizzes, cards, outings, etc. Lunch and refreshments provided. Cost: £5 per person every Monday. Contact: Kim Jeeves 07747841121

Age Concern Ware - Priory Street, Ware. (12.00 – 3.30pm) activities as above. Lunch and refreshments provided. Cost: £3.25 per person every Tuesday. Contact: Valarie Hutcheon 01920 464967.

Handyperson Service

This service is sponsored by Hertfordshire County Council and East Herts Council together with Age Concern and covers small repairs such as leaking taps, fixing curtain poles, replacing glass, clearing gutters, etc. This service is available for retired people, people with disabilities, people on low incomes. Cost: a charge is agreed with you before any work is done. For more information call 01279 755905. Wormley Parochial Charity

This charity is willing to offer financial help to local people who live within those parts of Wormley West End (EN10 postcode); they also have discretion to accept applications from borderline locations if the Trustees approve. This charity was originally set up in 1936 combining eight separate charities whose origins go back many years. Funds are available:

  1. Getting to and from hospital – either as a patient or as a visitor. They have contracts in place with the following companies to help pay towards such journeys: Broxbourne health Shuttle 01992 640322; Community Cars 01992 628172; Red Cross Cars 01992 509323.
  2. Christmas Vouchers – for newly bereaved, sick, needy or elderly residents who are able to exchange them for food and other necessities at nominated local shops.
  3. Educational Grants – for students in school, college or undergoing other training, towards essential clothing, equipment, books or instruments.
